Papa John’s

“Better Ingredients. Better Pizza.”

I’ve heard so much about Papa John’s Pizza but I’ve never tried it before. So when I got an email from Ivan Henares of Ivan About Town, inviting me to a food tour of Robinsons Galleria’s Veranda, I really got hyped up. Of the 10 restaurants in the list, I’m really excited to visit Papa John’s and Hyphy’s by Chef Bruce.

The Robinsons Veranda Tour’s first stop is Papa John’s. At 10:30 in the morning, how can I eat pizza? It feels like a sin to eat pizza in the morning. But the moment I walked in at Papa John’s, the smell of pizza in the oven and the view of the staff making the pizza dough made me forget my guilt.

Papa John’s has one of the best exterior views in the Veranda because of its location almost directly parallel to one of the decorative ceiling lights.

Meanwhile, the interior looks a little bit like the traditional pizza places in the US, with red brick walls to accent Papa John’s décor.

            But who is John?

The founder of Papa John’s, John Schnatter, used to work in a pizza place in Indiana when he was young. And at the age of 22, his dream of opening his own pizza parlor came true. Papa John’s slogan, “Better Ingredients, Better Pizza”, came about as his answer to the void in the pizza business in his hometown, which lack superior ingredients.

Currently, Papa John’s have over 3500 restaurants in 29 countries and is considered as the third largest pizza chain in the US, behind Pizza Hut and Domino’s Pizza.

            Papa John’s Menu.

Now for the pizza! All the pizzas can be ordered Thin Crust or Thick/Hand-Tossed and it comes with free Jalapenos (as a substitute to Tabasco) and a Butter Dip.

Papa John’s signature pizza is the Super Papa.

Super Papa, Large Thin Crust. The ultimate combination of tasty Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Ham, freshly sliced Mushrooms, Onions, Green Peppers, and Black Olives. A legendary taste treat! PHP320.00 / 9”; PHP450.00 / 12”; PHP550.00 / 14”.

I love Papa John’s thin crust. It’s crisp and is not as oily as the other chains.

Chicken BBQ, Large Hand-Tossed. Tender grilled Chicken, Bacon bits and zesty Onions combined with a sweet and tangy BBQ Sauce. PHP150.00 / Jr. Papa; PHP300.00 / 9”; PHP430.00 / 12”; PHP530.00 / 14”.

BBQ Sauce is US Style BBQ, Hickory and Smoky.

Fisherman’s Catch, Large Thin Crust. Juicy plump Shrimps and Calamari, fresh Green Peppers and Onions with our Signature Garlic Sauce. Mouth-watering. PHP300.00 / 9”; PHP430.00 / 12”; PHP530.00 / 14”.

Fisherman’s Catch is my favorite of the three. It’s not as heavy as the other 2 but it’s filling in taste and flavor. The shrimps are small (not even noticeable in the picture) but every bite is really packed with seafood goodness.

Pizza in the Manila just got better, all thanks to Papa John’s!

Visit Papa John’s at Level 2 of Robinsons Galleria Veranda, Ortigas Center, Quezon City.
